Exploring Brisbane

A Music Lesson ~ by Tejas

At the Queensland Museum we went to the music exhibit and saw Didgeridoos.  Here are some facts that we learned.  The didgeridoo is made from Eucalyptus tree or bamboo.  The British named the didgeridoo because of the low sound it made.  The original name of the didgeridoo is Yidaki, this name was given by the aboriginals.  In my research some sites say the didgeridoo is about 40,000 years old.  It’s Australia’s national Aboriginal instrument.  The didgeridoo
helps with snoring and asthma because of the way you have to breath, using a special method of breathing called circular breathing.  It is a wooden brass instrument and can be used in almost all genres of music.  The Eucalyptus tree is hollowed out by termites, then cut down and hollowed out a little bit more, then painted.  Most didgeridoos average to about 1.3 meters.  Another thing that I learned at the museum is how to paint a didgeridoo.  The first step is to cut a dingo’s fur and attach it to a stick to make a brush, then take the brush to paint on the didgeridoo.

The Enchanted Garden ~ by Jovan

This week we went to the Enchanted Gardens. The garden is a place where they light up a beautiful pathway and park with lights with colour. Since it was a garden there had to be nature so there were trees, rivers, and plants. It is open at Christmas time. To be exact it is open from November 29 to December 13. It is one of the world’s biggest light show. If you want to look it up look up Enchanted Gardens Brisbane Australia.

Now I will ask my two brothers, mom ,and dad what they thought this is what mom thought:

“I have never seen anything like it. Mom said

“I really like walking with my family on the pathway” Dad Said

Nix said “I liked my fries.”

Tejas said “I really liked my gelato.”

Dad and I saw a bat and it swooped down on us, dad and Tejas were scared and well if you know me I totally did not duck my head and freak out. I didn’t like the garden as much as my mom and dad, but I really liked gelato of course. If they had made the lights more flashy then I would have liked it.
