Welcome to our family newsletter. In this newsletter we will talk about all the things we do while we are away and going on an adventure. It was hard to leave because our friends threw a party for Tejas and I at school. They put balloons and streamers in our cubbies, they gave us presents, and they wrote a nice card. They are my best friends ever! My family came to the see us before we left and gave us travel games and had a sign that said we will miss you. They are the best family ever! 

The Before ~by Mom

The adventure started before we even left home. The week of our departure our bathroom sink pipe just broke; no leaking, no funny sounds, no warning, just water on the bathroom floor. This same week Nix had the most awesome runny nose and cough, including missing his last day of school. Finally, the night before our departure, literally 12 hours before we left, OUR FURNACE QUIT! I planned for it by having both the furnace and water heater checked two weeks before we left with a perfect report card, but the furnace thought Arsh and I would need an anxiety induced panic attack married with chest pains and deep rooted forehead wrinkles as a send off for leaving it home alone to brave the cold winter. Almost willing to trade a kidney for a working furnace with the repair man, we left our on-life-support-furnace to our neighbors and parents, and we let go. ~ Mom

Food and Feasts ~by Tejas

While we are in Australia we want to try new foods.  Here are some of the new foods we tried and what we thought. 

1. Vegemite: Vegemite is a slimy jelly like substance.  It tastes like Rotten Honey.  Everybody thought it was gross. 

2.Tim Tam Donuts: Tim Tam donuts are small donuts that taste like Tim Tams.  Everybody thought that it was very good.   

3. Milk Buns: Milk Buns are small burger buns.  It tastes soft and sweet. Three of us thought it was okay the rest of us thought it was very good.

The Adventure Begins ~by Dad

We were very worried about the door to door time...33 hours. 20 hours of flight time; 27 hours in the airport/flying/travelling and a 6 hour wait to get to our place after our arrival. We were so worried about entertaining and sedating the kids. We packed gaming systems, iPads, laptops, books, cards, games, the whole shebang! We considered packing Gravol, thought about Benadryl, there’s always adult juice on these flights, right? Did I mention that on the flight to Vancouver we were seated next to the lavatory? Or that my water bottle opened when I was putting our luggage in the overhead and mine as well as the seat in front of me were soaked in water? In the end what did we need...just each other. The kids were angels, Rox didn’t get phased by anything, I have the best family in the world!
